Jahanara Shahnawaz

Begum Jahanara Shahnawaz (1896-1979) was a politician and Muslim League activist. She was the daughter of Sir Muhammad Shafi. Her husband was Mian Shah Nawaz. She studied at Queen Mary College.

In 1918 she successfully moved the All India Muslim Women’s Conference to pass a resolution against polygamy. In 1935 she founded the Punjab Provincial Women’s Muslim League. In the Round Table Conference of 1930, shIe and Radhabai Subbarayan were the only two active members of women's organisations nominated to the conference; they argued unsuccessfully for a 5 per cent reservation for women in the legislatures.

In 1948 she led a protest of thousands of women in the streets of Lahore, protesting against the fact that a bill encouraging better economic opportunities for women had been removed from the agenda. Prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan intervened, and the Muslim Personal Law of Shariat of 1948 was passed; it legally recognized a woman's right to inherit property, including agricultural land, which had not been recognized during British rule of Pakistan.

Dr. Israr Ahmed

Israr Ahmed was a Pakistani Islamic theologian,philosopher, and Islamic scholarwho was followed particularly in South Asia as well as by South Asian Muslims in the Middle East, Western Europe, and North America.

He was the founder of Tanzeem-e-Islami, an offshoot of the rightist Jamaat-e-Islami.Ahmed wrote and published 60 books on different aspects of Islam and religion, nine of which were translated into English.\

 

 

 

Ashfaq Ahmed

Ashfaq Ahmed was a writer, playwright and broadcaster from Pakistan. He wrote several books in Urdu. His works included novels, short stories and plays for television and radio.He was awarded President's Pride of Performance and Sitara-i-Imtiaz for meritorious services in the field of literature and broadcasting.

 

 

 

 

 

Mustansar Hussain Tarar

Mustansar Hussain Tarar is a Pakistani author, travel enthusiast, writer, novelist, columnist, TV host and former actor.

He has written more than 50 books including novels and a collection of short stories in his career.His first book was Nikley Teri Talaash Main (1970), dedicated to his youngest brother, Mobashir Hussain Tarar, a travelogue of Europe published in 1971. This followed a period during which he travelled in seventeen European countries, and it led to a new trend in Urdu literature. As 'Safar Nama', (travelogue) he has so far over forty titles to his credit.
